This amulet of Hathor with Horus child is carved from soapstone or talc stone, with traces of green glaze. It was found in the Phoenician cemetery of Casetes, in Vilajoiosa and dates from the 6th century BC. The amulet has two faces: in this one the cow goddess Hathor appears breastfeeding Horus as a child, while in the other one the right eye of Horus or "eye of Ra" is represented, symbolizing the Sun.
Hathor is the representation of the mother goddess of gratitude and love. She is the Egyptian goddess of copper, turquoise and incense. In addition, it has the extraordinary power to pass from this to the other world, and that is why it can even shake hands with people who cross to the Afterlife and accompany them so that they are not alone. The women invoked her, above all, to help them with the pregnancy. And men and women asked for help in matters of love.
The name of Hathor means the House (Hat) of Horus (Hor). Horus is the Sun God. Every day he walks through the sky until night falls and then returns home. His home is the womb of his mother, Hathor. And the next day it is reborn as the rising sun, therefore forming a cycle. This is what the amulet represents, the cow goddess Hathor breastfeeds her calf Horus as a child. Behind them, the lotus flower from which the Sun in Creation emerged. This was a typical woman's amulet, related to motherhood.
The eye of Ra, on the other hand, is the defensive and aggressive side of the goddess. The amulet is a protective object to its owner against his enemies.
